Hi Bill, and Everyone else I (Thorshammer) know from the other sites.

So now that things have settled out a bit on the family side of the house, I am getting back into racing. For those of you that don;t know me, I have been building cars and motorcycles for many years, with National Championships in motorcycle racing and car racing. In 2005 I drove a 914-6 to second place at the SCCA Runoffs. enough of that.

I have been petitioning the SCCA to allow the Boxster in E Production. I am still negotiating with them at this time, but some initial specs are out and it appears that the car will be classified as of October Fastrack. nice thing. The Spec Boxster will be allowed to run as an E Prod car as the cage rules appear to me to be compliant and since the fuel tank is placed between the axle centerlines, it is allowed as well, yes, you can run without a fuel cell these days. This is great news for SP BOX guys and also for me, as I would like to Run this class in this car.

Here is what I have planned:

Complete the CFD to determine if the windshield stays on or I cut it off. Determine the proper shape for the front and rear fender profiles should be to balance the downforce, there will be changes depending on width and there may be some advantages in the profile shape. The flow onto the rear spoiler will be very important as this is something that I have never had before. We are working with front air dam shape now as most of the 996 shapes are not acceptable to te rules. I have been looking at some different cage designs, and the FEA we have done on the cage has led us to a really good design, now can we fabricate the stuff where we want it? We also plan on using Impaxx foam in the left hand door with a carbon inside door cover.

I have a couple questions about some mods and I know that BSX does not allow some of these mods, so bear with me?

Does anyone make a carbon or faux carbon dash?

Has anyone fabbed up fenders that are 2-2.5 inches wider on each side?

Does anyone make Lexan for the front windscreen?

Carbon or fiberglass hoods and decklids, front and rear bumpers?

Will the 996 rear shocks bolt up directly? The parts numbers on pet are the same I think. I would think the valving is different

Is anyone using ceramic rear hub bearings to deal with the premature failures I have heard about? On the Spec Box, we have been changing them every 8 races.

Crickets chirping.  Yes.  LOL!

Suggest you talk to Brad.  He has hooked up with some guys who might impress you.  Focus is Boxster race cars.  They have been all over my chop top car.  Lots of ideas.  I cant afford many!

Ceramic bearings ...yes, better aero, etc.  My car is AX car so aero hasnt been biggest focus.  However they are making CF body parts soon.

If car is accepted into E production I suspect they will slap huge weight penalty on which is unfortunate.  Because you will need to get power from the M96.

I want to hear your ideas on motor.  I have been talking to many people and everything is highly experimental.  Biggest issue I have is getting appropriate power for SCCA class out of the M96 without breaking the bank.

Lots of suspension tricks for use of slicks.

I have never seen one, but if they made one for the 996, it should fit.

I have seen wider front fender made of steel, and widebody add-on fenders for the rear. But any CF or Composit front fender made for the 996 should fit on the Boxster (be careful of which headlights the fenders are designed for).

Does anyone make Lexan for the front windscreen?
Haven't seen any.

Carbon or fiberglass hoods and decklids, front and rear bumpers?
Yes. Aftermarket shops and eBay.

No. The 996 rear suspension is completely different. Only the front suspension is the same.

Is anyone using ceramic rear hub bearings to deal with the premature failures I have heard about? On the Spec Box, we have been changing them every 8 races.
Possibly. Don't know if SCCA will allow you to use Boxster S rear hub carriers, but they take bigger bearings and halfshafts.
