... unless you provide them with the original receipt of purchase.

I had purchased a short shift kit from them many years ago.
I went with them instead of Schnell because they offered a "lifetime warranty".
Last week one of the teflon bushings (rearmost) gave out on me and I couldn't shift gears.
I called B&M and they told me that I just need to send the original receipt (which I've lost after so many years).
They wouldn't budge on this.
I asked them to sell me the broken bushing, they wouldn't.
The solution for them was for me to buy a new shifter.

Well, the solution for me was to make my own bushing!
But it really p!sses me off that a company offers a lifetime warranty and when that unit breaks they won't stand behind their promise.

If it's a lifetime warranty why do they require your receipt? Sears doesn't!

Finished ranting.

Yeah, sounds lame to me.  I had a great experience last month with the Tilley hat company.  They have a lifetime guarantee (and their hats are expensive, so it matters!)  After 7 years the hat was getting pretty worn so I sent it in and they sent me a new one, no questions asked.  Now that's a lifetime warranty!  If you need a great hiking hat, look at Tilley.

Is the lifetime warranty transferrable?  If there's a no transfer clause, that may be why they want the receipt.

Even if that is the case, it's still not right.  For a lifetime warranty, there shouldn't be a no transfer clause.

I happen to have a couple of spare bushings (blue cylinder with white nylon/delrin insert). I have no idea how much they cost. How much would you like to buy one for (plus shipping)?

... but once Eric (the Plug Guy) heard my problem, he contacted B&M and had them overnight to me a complete set of bushings.
BumperPlugs.com is one of the largest B&M Distributors.
Eric is a real standup guy (and he didn't even sell me the Short Shifter in the first place).
